Well, today wasn't much better, in fact it's worse for some people. The flood levels for the river at normal stages are 9 1/2 ft, they were at 28 ft this morning. They are higher now. On my way to work I drive along the river, so I can see first hand what's going on with the flooding. One of Newton's main attractions is a motorcross park for kids with mini-bikes, I say main attraction because if you knew Newton, there isn't much around here. It's pretty much one of those places where you could spit, and miss the whole town. This motorcross park, used to have hills and trails, now it looks like a lake with mini mountain peaks just peeking over the water. This morning things didn't look as if they had changed much from the day before, however on my way home from work, things had changed a lot. Not too far from the motorcross park is a run down trailer park witch on the way to work looked as if it was safe from flooding, however, on the way home the water line was about 2 feet up on some of the mobile homes. A house that has a pond right behind it this morning the water line was up to his back porch, on the way home, about 3 ft up in his house, and his drive way was unpassable, the car was parked near the road. Something I have never seen though, you could actually SEE the river from the road. You have to understand, normally the river is about 20 ft down an embankment, so you can't see it from the road at all. Most people just "know" it's there, and if you are not from around here, you probably would have no clue that it was there at all except for the fact that there are a couple of bridges along the road that belong to creeks that flow into the river. I had hoped to include some pictures today, but unfortunately the battery on my camera is dead and that is the way it will stay until pay day. :) News reports say that the river is going to peak Wednesday afternoon, I shutter to think the water getting higher than it is already. I fully suspect heading for work tomarrow the main bridge that actually crosses the river to be closed, that will leave me without a day's pay, and stuck at home. Enough for now, at least on this topic.
